Numbers to 1,000,000, long multiplication and short division, factors, primes, squares and cubes, thousandths, estimating by rounding, the per cent symbol and the area of rectangles.
What Year 5 covers
- Reading, writing and ordering numbers to 1,000,000, and rounding to any power of ten
- Long multiplication, and short division with remainders
- Factors, multiples, prime numbers, square numbers and cube numbers
- Thousandths, and decimals to three places
- The per cent symbol, and writing percentages as fractions and decimals
- Area of rectangles, and perimeter of composite shapes
- Line graphs, timetables and two-way tables
The Key Stage 2 tests are sat in the May of Year 6, so a Year 5 child has 1 more school year before the papers. Everything here is groundwork the later years lean on.
