The Complete KS2 SATs Maths Course

By the end of this course your child has been taught every maths topic a KS2 SATs paper can ask for, in the order that makes each one easier than the one before. What's included, year by year:

• Year 3 - 10 lessons, 58 units, 802 questions. Reading and writing numbers to 100 and 1,000, mental and column addition and subtraction, building fractions and adding them, right angles and turns, naming 2D and 3D shapes, tally charts, bar charts and pictograms.
• Year 4 - 16 lessons, 93 units, 1,336 questions. Numbers to 10,000 and rounding, grid and column multiplication, short division, decimal place value and rounding decimals, powers of 10, negative numbers, fractions of amounts, symmetry, perimeter, coordinates, transformations, converting units, time and timetables, and Roman numerals.
• Year 5 - 12 lessons, 71 units, 1,108 questions. Numbers to a million, divisibility rules, squares and cubes, estimation, adding and subtracting decimals, factors and multiples, primes, multiplying and dividing fractions, percentages of amounts, converting between fractions, decimals and percentages, area of rectangles and triangles, and two-way tables.
• Year 6, the SATs year - 26 lessons, 157 units, 2,292 questions. BIDMAS and inverse operations, multiplying and dividing decimals, HCF and LCM, reverse fractions, all three ratio lessons, the second fractions, decimals and percentages lesson, seven algebra lessons from building expressions to sequences, angles in triangles and polygons, volume, the mean and problems with averages, pie charts, combinations, and multi step word problems.

Year 6 is the biggest year by a distance, and that is not padding. The National Curriculum saves long division, the order of operations, ratio, algebra, the mean, pie charts and volume all for Year 6, and the SATs papers are sat in the May of that same year. Most of the work lands in the last twelve months, which is exactly why starting earlier helps.

What the papers actually ask for. There are three papers and 110 marks. Paper 1 is arithmetic, 40 marks in 30 minutes, and it contains no shape, measures or statistics questions at all. Papers 2 and 3 are reasoning, 70 marks between them in 80 minutes. Between 75 and 85 per cent of the marks across the whole test come from number, ratio and algebra, which is why those blocks run deepest in this course.

How it works:

• You get one link to your course page, which lists all 64 lessons under Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6. Bookmark it and it is your whole library.
• Every lesson opens in a browser with nothing to install and nothing to print. Use a laptop or a desktop computer, because the lessons are built for a full size screen and a phone is too small to work from.
• Each unit starts with a worked example your child clicks through one line at a time, so they see the method being built rather than a finished answer.
• They try the practice questions on paper, then tap to check their own answer. Questions are colour-coded easy, medium and hard, and there is a reveal-all option when you want to check a full page at once.
• Every lesson finishes with a mixed challenge that pulls from all of its units, so your child has to decide which method the question needs before they start.
• Many lessons carry an interactive tool your child works with rather than reads, including a place value slider, a bar model builder, a pie chart plotter and a shape builder.

Two lessons go past the curriculum on purpose. Year 6 includes reading numbers to a billion, when SATs stop at ten million, and solving simultaneous equations by elimination, which is a Year 7 method. Both are there because a child who is comfortable with the SATs ceiling is ready to be stretched, and neither will cost them anything on the paper.
