Foundation or Higher?

Maths and science papers come in two tiers. Practise on the tier your child is entered for, because each paper is written for its own grade range. English has one paper for everyone.

A grade 4 is a standard pass and a grade 5 is a strong pass.

When to use past papers in Year 11

  1. September to OctoberSingle questions from past papers on the topics being taught.
  2. November to JanuaryMock exams at school. Mark them and list the topics that lost marks.
  3. February to AprilFull papers in timed conditions, one every week or two.
  4. May and JuneThe real exams. Keep the newest series back for one last run.

Sat a paper at home? A teacher can mark it.

Past papers show the score. A teacher's marking shows where the marks went and what to practise next. From £39.99 per paper.

Getting more from a paper than a mark

  1. 1. Mark it the same dayYour child still remembers their thinking, so the mistakes make sense.
  2. 2. List three questionsWrite down the three questions that lost the most marks.
  3. 3. Practise those topicsWork on them before the next paper. That short list is what moves the grade.
