About this lesson
By the end of this lesson your child can work out an awkward multiplication in their head and tell whether one number divides into another without doing the division. Times table shortcuts and divisibility tests turn a question that eats two minutes of working into one your child answers by looking at it.
Topics covered:
- Doubling routes, for example 8 × 6 by doubling three times
- Multiplying by ten and five
- Multiplying by three and six
- Multiplying by nine and eleven, ten lots first then one lot either way
- Multiplying by seven and twelve
- Round and adjust, for example 41 × 9 as 410 − 41
- Divisibility tests for 2, 10 and 5
- Divisibility tests for 3 and 9 using the digit sum
- Divisibility tests for 4 and 8 using the last digits
- Divisibility tests for 6 and 12, where two tests have to pass at once
