Long division and the order of operations, fractions with different denominators, ratio and proportion, algebra, the mean, pie charts, area of triangles, volume of cuboids and all four quadrants.
What Year 6 covers
- Long division, and using the order of operations across all four operations
- Adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions with different denominators
- Ratio and proportion, and solving problems involving percentages
- Simple formulae, linear sequences, and missing number problems written algebraically
- Area of triangles and parallelograms, and the volume of cubes and cuboids
- Finding unknown angles in triangles, quadrilaterals and regular polygons
- Coordinates in all four quadrants, reflections and translations
- Interpreting and constructing pie charts and line graphs, and calculating the mean
Year 6 is when the Key Stage 2 national tests are sat, in the May of the year. It is also the heaviest year of the curriculum by a distance, which is why this year carries 26 of the 64 lessons.
