Place value to 10,000, rounding, all tables to 12 x 12, short multiplication, decimals to two places, negative numbers, perimeter and first quadrant coordinates.
What Year 4 covers
- Place value in four digit numbers, and rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000
- Every times table to 12 x 12, and short multiplication in a formal written layout
- Decimals to two places, and dividing by 10 and 100
- Counting back through zero into negative numbers
- Perimeter of rectilinear shapes, and finding area by counting squares
- Coordinates in the first quadrant, translations, and lines of symmetry
- Converting units of measure, and the 12 and 24 hour clock
- Reading Roman numerals to 100
The Key Stage 2 tests are sat in the May of Year 6, so a Year 4 child has 2 more school years before the papers. Everything here is groundwork the later years lean on.
