Online GCSE maths tutor, one to one every week
Weekly maths lessons online for Year 7 to Year 11, at Foundation or Higher tier. Each lesson starts from the topics losing your child marks, and you get a written note after every session.
Your child is taught by one of our two qualified maths teachers, Aadam Mulla or Michelle Tran, never a university student. Between them they have over 15 years of teaching maths in UK secondary schools, and Aadam is a former Edexcel examiner.

How lessons work
The first lesson finds the gaps. A student struggling with algebra often has a fractions gap underneath it, so we look for the real problem before teaching anything.
Every lesson after that is planned around your child. For a grade 4 target that can mean weeks of number work before an exam paper comes out. For a grade 9 target it means harder, less familiar questions.
Exam skills get taught alongside the maths, such as managing 90 minutes, when to move on, and how to show working the way examiners reward.
Your child gets work to do between lessons, and we check it. If the same mistake shows up twice, the next lesson changes to deal with it.
Each month includes
- A one to one lesson every week, same slot, 45 or 60 minutes

- Practice set between lessons, aimed at the gaps
- Mocks marked to your child's exam board mark scheme

Qualified maths teacher with a Master's in Education and a former Edexcel examiner. Aadam spent five years teaching maths in UK secondary schools before founding SHLC in 2020. Since then he has taught maths one to one for over 3,000 hours, and teaches 11+, SATs and GCSE maths himself.

Michelle taught maths at The London Oratory School for nine years, every year group from Year 7 to Year 11, and spent her last three years there leading the Key Stage 3 maths curriculum. She teaches GCSE maths at Foundation and Higher tier.

Start with a free maths assessment
Before any lessons, your child can take a free maths assessment, so the first lesson starts in the right place.
Years 4 to 8
For 11+, SATs and KS3. Your child takes the free Maths Level Finder. It checks 192 skills across 16 topics and grades each topic Foundation, Developing, Secure or Mastered. The results come up straight away, and you get an emailed report naming the lessons to do next.
Year 9 and up
We send your child a GCSE Foundation or Higher paper, whichever suits their level. Your child marks it with the official mark scheme, so you can both see where the marks went. To ask for a paper, mention it when you book the free call, or send us a message on WhatsApp and we will get one over to you.
You also get one free 15 minute call, and you choose when it happens. Have it before the assessment and we will help you pick the right paper or starting point. Or have it afterwards and we will go through the results with you.

Questions parents ask
Which exam boards do you cover?
AQA, Edexcel and OCR, at Foundation and Higher tier. Lessons use your child's own board and that board's past papers.
How quickly do GCSE maths grades go up?
Across the eleven grade moves we have logged since 2021, every student went up two or three grades, over two to eight months. The full log is in how our GCSE students improve. It takes the weekly lesson and the work set between lessons.
Is my child too far behind to start?
Starting from a grade 2 or 3 is common. Four of the eleven students in our log started there. Lessons rebuild the number work first, then move on to exam skills.
Who will teach my child?
One of our two qualified maths teachers. Aadam Mulla taught maths in UK secondary schools for five years, has marked exams for Edexcel as an examiner, and has taught over 3,000 hours one to one since 2020. Michelle Tran taught maths at The London Oratory School for nine years and led its Key Stage 3 maths curriculum. Neither is a student.
Do you teach in person?
No, we teach online, with students based in London, Manchester, Newcastle, Liverpool, Glasgow and West Yorkshire, as well as families abroad. Where you live does not limit which teacher your child gets.
Can we try before committing?
Yes. Your child can take a free maths assessment first: the Maths Level Finder up to Year 8, or a GCSE Foundation or Higher paper from Year 9, marked with the official mark scheme. You also get one free 15 minute call, before the assessment or after it, whichever you prefer. There is no contract. Some families start with a single marked mock to see the level of detail first.
How much does online GCSE maths tuition cost?
£270 a month for one 60 minute lesson a week, or £220 a month for 45 minutes. Maths, English and science together cost £650 a month.
