Every free resource we have, and which one you need
SHLC gives away most of what it makes: past papers across every board, practice tools, checklists and around eighty written guides. This page is the map. Nothing below costs anything or asks for an email address.
Past papers
Free downloads with mark schemes, organised so you can find the exact paper your child is sitting rather than a folder of everything.
- GCSE and IGCSE maths, covering AQA, Edexcel, OCR and the international specifications, with video walkthroughs.
- GCSE English, Language and Literature across every board.
- GCSE science, biology, chemistry and physics, combined and separate.
- 11+ papers, labelled by provider and by type so you know whether you are looking at a real entrance paper or a familiarisation booklet.
- KS2 SATs, maths and English with mark schemes.

Guides
Around eighty written guides covering GCSE grades and boundaries, revision planning, mocks and predicted papers, exam boards, 11+ and grammar school entry, confidence and motivation, and choosing a tutor.
They are all indexed by topic on the education hub, which is the better starting point if you are not sure what you are looking for.
Where to start if you are not sure
Three steps, in this order, and they take about half an hour between them.
- Find out where your child actually is. The topic checklist or the readiness quiz, marked honestly by the child rather than by you.
- Convert any practice mark into a grade. Raw marks mislead in both directions.
- Pick two or three specific topics. Not "maths". Named topics, worked properly, then re-tested.
If the same topic keeps failing after focused work, it is resting on something earlier and more practice will not shift it. That is the point at which our mastery lessons or a free call will save you more time than another past paper.

Is all of this really free?
Yes. The papers, the tools and the guides are free with no sign up and nothing to install.
The paid things are the interactive mastery lessons, the mock marking service and one to one tuition, and they are clearly marked.
Why give this much away?
Most of it is material we built for our own students, and publishing it costs us very little. Families who find it useful sometimes come back for tuition and most do not, which is fine.
It also means the advice on this site is testable. You can use everything free and decide whether we know what we are talking about before spending anything.
