Aadam Mulla, Founder
Why SHLC exists
Aadam spent five years teaching in UK secondary schools. He kept seeing the same thing: students working hard but falling behind, not because they lacked ability, but because nobody had properly identified where the gaps were.
He founded SHLC in 2020 to do that properly. Assess the student first, build the plan around the actual gaps, and track what is improving. Every tutor at SHLC follows the same structured approach.
How We Work
Most tutoring starts with a worksheet on session one. We start differently. Before any teaching, we find out exactly where your child is and why they are struggling. The first session is an assessment, not a lesson.
We map your child's knowledge across their subject, finding not just which topics are weak but why. That shapes everything that follows.
Sessions are sequenced to close the specific gaps we found, in the order that builds understanding rather than just working through the specification.
Parents receive written progress updates covering what has improved, what is still being worked on, and what the next sessions will focus on.
Our Tutors
Every tutor at SHLC is a subject specialist with a minimum of five years teaching or tutoring experience. We keep the team small deliberately. We would rather turn away work than lower the bar on who we bring on.
Maths tutors teach Maths. Science tutors teach Science. No generalists covering subjects outside their expertise.
Every tutor has taught or tutored in their subject for at least five years before working with SHLC students.
We interview, observe and assess every tutor before they take on a student. Most applicants do not make the cut.
Every session follows the same framework: assess, plan, teach, track. Parents see the same quality regardless of subject.

Grades improved at GCSE
Students typically improve two to three grades in three to seven months. The UK average is one grade per year. Our students move significantly faster.
