About this lesson
By the end of this lesson your child can slide, flip or resize any shape on a grid, name which of the three they are looking at, and describe it fully enough to pick up the mark.
Topics covered:
- Translations on squared paper, counting the squares across and up from one corner and moving every other corner the same way
- Translations with coordinates, so right adds to x, down takes away from y, and a shape can cross an axis without the signs going wrong
- Reflections in a drawn mirror line, matching each corner to its own gap on the other side
- Reflections in the axes and in a named line such as x = 3, where counting equal gaps is the only method that works
- Enlargements by 2, 3 and 4 and by a half or a third, including what happens to the perimeter
- Naming and describing any of the three from the picture alone, plus two-step questions that slide a point and then reflect it
Each worked example builds one line at a time, and the picture moves with it, one corner at a time, so your child watches the method happen rather than reading a finished answer. They try each question on paper, then click to check.
How it's structured:
- Each unit opens with two worked examples clicked through line by line, then 8 practice questions colour-coded easy, medium and hard

- A final 12-question mixed challenge pulling from all 6 units, including two-step journeys and spot-the-mistake questions
Transformations is a topic children lose marks on for moving the whole shape by eye, so this lesson gives them four explore tools to work on instead. They tap a square to say where a corner lands and the picture tells them straight away whether they are right. In the Mirror Lab they can hide the image, plot the reflection themselves corner by corner, and the shape only joins itself up when every corner is in the right place. The Enlarger hides its measurements on a button, so your child works out the new sides before checking them.

- You're preparing for the 11+, where naming a transformation and describing it fully are both worth marks
