About this pack
Vocabulary is the quietest way to lose marks at 11+. It is tested directly in verbal reasoning, and it decides how much of a comprehension passage a child actually understands. Most word lists hand over a page of words and hope. This pack tests instead.
Three books, 2,386 multiple choice questions, cut into short sets so a session is ten or twenty minutes rather than an afternoon. Every set carries a score box and a date line. Every question has a keyed answer at the back. Every word tested is defined in an A to Z list, so a wrong answer turns into a word learned instead of a guess repeated.
The books are numbered and the running order is printed on every cover, with the one your child is holding marked. Book 1, the Synonyms Pack, runs 1,396 questions in 50 sets, starting with three-letter words and working up. Book 2, the Opposites Daily Tests, adds 990 antonym questions in 50 daily tests of 20. Book 3, the Synonyms Daily Tests, shuffles the same 1,396 questions from book 1 into 70 daily tests, so short words and long ones land on the same page.
Antonyms are where marks quietly go missing. The wrong answers in this pack are the ones children reach for under time pressure, usually a word that sounds close or that sits on the opposite side of the meaning. Getting caught once is how a child stops falling for it.
Use it as a daily habit rather than a cram. One page a day, marked straight away, with every missed word looked up and written into a sentence of your child's own. Redo any test scored below 80 per cent a fortnight later. A score that holds two weeks on is a score you can trust in an exam.

How it works
Start with book 1
The running order is printed on every cover. Book 1 builds the word bank, book 2 adds antonyms, book 3 retests the lot in a shuffled order.
One page at a time
Ten to twenty minutes, no dictionary and no help. Print the page or work from the screen.
Mark it in pencil
The answer key gives the letter and the word, so marking is quick. Write the score and the date in the box at the top.
Look up every miss
Find each missed word in the A to Z list and write it on the words I keep getting wrong sheet at the front.
Put the word to work
Have your child use each missed word in a sentence of their own. That is the step that moves a word from recognised to owned.
Come back to it
Redo any test scored below 80 per cent a fortnight later. A score that holds two weeks on is a score you can trust in an exam.
FAQs
What age is this for?
Year 4 to Year 6 for 11+ preparation. The early sets use short, common words and the later sets move into the vocabulary that separates candidates on competitive papers.
Do the answers come with it?
Yes. Every pack has a complete answer key giving the letter and the answer word for every question, plus an A to Z list defining every word tested.
Why are the synonyms in there twice?
Two different jobs. Book 1 runs shortest word to longest, which is the right order for building up. Book 3 shuffles the same questions so every page mixes lengths, the way a real paper does, which makes it a proper retest rather than a memory of the layout.
What order should we use them in?
Book 1 first, then book 2, then book 3. The order is printed on the cover of each book, with the one you are holding marked.
Is it printable?
Yes. All three are A4 portrait PDFs that print at home in colour or black and white. Print the lot or a page at a time, and the text is searchable if your child prefers a tablet.
How long does it take to get through?
At one page a day, the daily tests run for 70 days. Most families work through the packs across a school year with time to repeat the weak sets.
Is this only useful for the 11+?
No. Synonym and antonym work feeds into reading comprehension and into the vocabulary a child reaches for in creative writing, so it keeps earning marks past the entrance exam.
