11+ Parent Playbook
Fifteen printable pages that show you how to run 11+ preparation at home the way a teacher would: a 20 minute session with a shape, proof each session stuck, four things worth tracking, and what to say when it goes wrong.
About this playbook
By the end of this playbook you can run 11+ preparation at home the way a teacher would. A 20-minute session with a shape, proof that each session actually stuck, four things worth tracking, and a script for the moments that go wrong.
Fifteen pages, built to be printed, written on and kept on the kitchen side. The forms are made to photocopy: a session planner with timings, blank exit tickets, a weekly tracker and a fortnight rescue grid.
The seven tools
- The 20-Minute Mini-Session. Recap, starter, one concept, test it. Every session runs on the same four parts, and the planner puts a whole session on one side of A4.
- Teaching something new. I do, We do, You do, and how to show an idea three ways (real objects, a drawing, then the maths) so a stuck child gets unstuck.
- The Exit Ticket. Three questions that end every session and build a dated folder of what your child can actually do.
- What to Track. Four rows, once a week: timing, % scored, skills remembered, mood. And the four things to leave off the tracker.
- The Scripts. Exactly what to say when they get it wrong, when they are stuck, and when they shut down.
- The Mock-Recovery Fortnight. A calm, day-by-day plan for after a bad mock, with a grid to photocopy.
- The Final Week and The Long View. How to arrive fresh, and how long to give the whole journey depending on where your child is now.
It is also the written companion to the 11+ Parent Coaching Session, where it is included free. Buy it on its own here, or get it with the session.
Built by an experienced maths teacher with over 3,000 hours of one-to-one tutoring experience and a Master's in Education.

FAQs
What age is this for?
Parents of children in Year 4, 5 or 6 preparing for 11+ entry. It works best when you start at the beginning of Year 5 or earlier, because the method depends on short sessions repeated over months.
Is this for my child to read?
No, this one is for you. Your child never needs to see it. It teaches you how to run the sessions, and they simply get better sessions.
Do I need to be good at maths?
No. The playbook is about how to structure a session, how to respond when your child is stuck, and what to track. The teaching shapes work for English and reasoning too.
What do I get?
One printable PDF of 15 pages, downloadable straight after purchase. It includes the session planner, blank exit tickets, the weekly tracker and the fortnight grid, all designed to be photocopied.
How is this different from the coaching session?
The playbook is the written method you work through yourself. The 11+ Parent Coaching Session is a live hour with me, built around your child and your target schools, and the playbook is included free with it.
Will this work if my child hates sitting down to work?
It is built for exactly that. The session is 20 minutes, one concept, and the Shutdown Protocol covers what to do on the days it falls apart. A short session done regularly beats a perfect plan that never starts.
Can I use it for more than one child?
Yes. It is one method and the forms are made to photocopy, so you can run it for each child at their own level.
