    A coat costs £240 and is reduced by 15% in a sale. How much money is taken off?

    1. Write 15% as a decimal:15 ÷ 100 = 0.15
    2. Multiply by the price:0.15 × 240 = 36
    3. Check with 10%:10% of £240 is £24, and 5% is half of that, £12. £24 + £12 = £36

    Answer: £36
