Coordinates, Measures & Time Bundle
An interactive lesson on screen. Your child works through worked examples, practises on their own, then tests themselves with questions that get harder as they go.
About this lesson
By the end of these five lessons your child can plot and read a point anywhere on a grid, slide, flip or resize a shape, convert between units of length, mass and capacity, work out how long a journey lasted, and use speed, distance and time together. These are the topics that turn up inside longer word problems on the 11+ and GCSE Foundation papers rather than as questions of their own, which is why they are so often the marks that go missing. Five interactive lessons, 30 units, 440 questions.
What's included:
- Coordinates - 5 units (Reading and Plotting, All Four Quadrants, Shapes and Missing Vertices, Midpoints, Lines and Patterns), 70 questions
- Transformations - 6 units (Translations on a Grid, Translations with Coordinates, Reflections in a Mirror Line, Reflections with Coordinates, Enlargements, Naming and Describing), 72 questions
- Converting Units - 7 units (Length One Step at a Time, Length in Multi Step Jumps, Mass, Capacity, Miles Kilometres and Imperial, Reading Scales, Mixed Measure Problems), 110 questions
- Time, Timetables and Calendars - 6 units (Clocks and 24-Hour Time, Units of Time, Durations, Timetables, Calendars and Leap Years, Mixed Time Problems), 96 questions
- Speed, Distance and Time - 6 units (Find the Speed, Find the Distance, Find the Time, Average Speed, Reading Distance-Time Graphs, Speed from Graphs and Story Matching), 92 questions
Your child works through each lesson on any screen. They click to reveal each step of a worked example, try the practice questions on paper, then click to check their own answer.
How it's structured:
- Each of the 30 units opens with worked examples clicked through line by line, then a bank of practice questions colour-coded easy, medium and hard
- 440 questions in total across the 5 lessons, every one with a click-to-reveal answer and a reveal-all option
- Every lesson closes with its own mixed challenge, pulling from all of its units so your child has to work out which method the question needs before they start
The five lessons are built to be worked through in order. Coordinates comes first because transformations are described with coordinates, and a child who is still counting squares to find a point cannot describe a reflection. Converting units comes before speed, because a speed question that mixes miles and kilometres is really a conversion question wearing a disguise. Time comes before speed as well, since working out that a journey took 1 hour 30 minutes is the step most children get wrong long before the speed itself.
Each lesson also carries tools your child can work with rather than read. There is a grid they tap to plot a point and two grid games, a mirror lab where the reflected shape only joins itself up once every corner is in the right place, a unit ladder that moves one measurement through every length unit at once, a live clock whose hands they drag while all three ways of writing the time update together, and a journey builder that draws a distance-time graph one part at a time and writes the story to go with it.
Use this if:
- Your child is in Year 4 to Year 11 and needs position, measure and time built properly rather than one weak spot topped up
- You're preparing for the 11+, where timetables, conversions and coordinate questions come up nearly every year
- Your child is doing GCSE Foundation and loses marks for the right number in the wrong unit, or for treating 1 h 40 min as 1.4 hours
- You want a resource your child can check their own work with, not one more thing on your to-do list

Aadam, the tutor has a lovely mannerism and has made my daughter feel at ease. He explains the question in a way that she understands and is patient with her. She has already seen the results at school from his help and has gone up two GCSE grades in a short period of time.P. Flower · December 2024

FAQs
How do I access the lesson?
You'll get an email with your lesson link as soon as payment goes through. Click it to open the lesson in any browser, no login and no app to install.
How does the marking work?
There's no typing answers into a box. Your child works it out on paper, then clicks to reveal the correct answer and checks their own work. Full working is shown too, not just the final answer, so mistakes are easy to spot.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
It works best on a tablet or laptop, where there's more room to read the examples and questions. It'll open on a phone too, but the text and diagrams can feel quite small on a smaller screen.
Can I use the lesson more than once?
Yes. There's no limit on how many times you open the link, so it's there for revision right up to the exam.
What if I lose the link or don't get the email?
Email info@shlc-tutor.co.uk and we'll resend it straight away.
