About Nargis
Nargis is an English teacher with a first class degree in English studies. She is based in Newcastle and teaches online, so families anywhere in the UK can work with her.
In school she has taken on a run of leadership roles that most tutors never do. She has run groups of pupils resitting their exams, run intervention for pupils at risk of failing, and run separate intervention for high achievers pushing for the top grades. Teaching at both ends of that range is unusual, and it is why she is comfortable with a child who is frightened of English and a child who is already doing well but has stopped improving.
She also attends conferences with the exam boards each year. That is where examiners explain what a question is actually asking for and which mistakes cost pupils the most marks nationally, and Nargis brings that straight into her sessions.
Nargis teaches by questioning. Rather than telling a pupil the answer, she asks the question that makes them find it, then pushes them one step further than they thought they could go. Every session ends with specific written feedback and a named target for the next one, so your child always knows what they are working on.
What to expect
Sessions are one to one and online. The first session is an assessment rather than a lesson, because the topic a pupil arrives with is often not the thing holding them back. Nargis maps what is secure and what is not, then builds the plan around the gaps she finds.
