Free Multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000 Worksheet Pack with Decimals and Answers
Two teaching charts, a method page and six practice sheets carrying 128 questions on whole numbers and decimals, with every answer included.
About this download
By the end of this pack your child can multiply whole numbers and decimals by 10, 100 and 1000, and by numbers like 40 and 300, and explain why the digits move.
14 A4 pages. It opens with a short guide for you, then a place value chart that shows the digits moving one place left for each zero. A method page covers questions like 36 × 40. Four practice sheets follow, then a decimals chart and two more sheets that take the same idea past the decimal point.
All 128 questions have answers at the back, along with what each kind of mistake tells you and a tracker for three attempts. The pack teaches the digit shift rather than adding a zero, because adding a zero gives 3.50 for 3.5 × 10. The right answer is 35.
Every practice sheet has a QR code into the free SHLC Skills Lab, so your child can keep practising with fresh numbers after the sheets run out.
Who this is for
Parents of children in Years 4 to 6, and families preparing for the 11+. It suits a child meeting × 10 for the first time, and a child who can do it but keeps tripping over zeros and decimals.
What's included
A one page guide for you
How long each session takes, a one minute script for teaching the idea, and the score that tells you it is time to move on.
The digit shift chart
A place value chart showing 47 becoming 470, 4,700 and 47,000. Your child sees the digits move one place left for each zero, rather than learning to add a zero.
The split, multiply, shift method
For questions like 36 × 40 and 27 × 300, with a worked example and the zero trap that catches out children who check by counting zeros.
Section 1, multiply by 10, 100 and 1000
30 questions in a fill-in table.
Section 2, multiples of 10 and 100
30 questions such as 48 × 900 and 91 × 60.
Section 3, problems and reasoning
10 word problems and explain-it questions.
Section 4, quick fire
18 mixed calculations, then a hunt for the answers with more zeros than the question.
The decimals chart
3.45 becoming 34.5, 345 and 3,450 with the decimal point fixed in place, plus the two mistakes to watch for.
Section 5, decimals × 10, 100 and 1000
30 questions from 0.07 up to 16.72.
Section 6, decimal problems
10 questions on money, measures and reasoning with decimals.
Answers and a score tracker
Every answer by section, what each kind of mistake tells you, and a grid to record three attempts.
How it works
Read the chart together
Five minutes. Ask your child to say where each digit moves. Saying it out loud is what makes it stick.
One sheet per session
About ten minutes each, or fifteen to twenty for the problem sheets. Read the method page before Section 2.
Mark it at the end
Let your child finish, then mark it together. The mistake usually shows which step was skipped.
Move on when it holds
Two scores of 9 out of 10 (27 out of 30 on the tables) means it is secure. If not, go back to the chart and redo the questions that went wrong the next day.
Then the decimals
Start Sections 5 and 6 once your child can read 3.45 as 3 ones, 4 tenths and 5 hundredths.
Keep going online
The QR code on every practice sheet opens the free Skills Lab, with fresh numbers every time.

FAQs
What age is this for?
Years 4 to 6 and 11+ preparation. Whole numbers come first. The decimal sections suit children in Year 5 and up, or anyone already secure with tenths and hundredths.
Why not just teach them to add a zero?
Adding a zero works when you multiply a whole number by 10, so it feels fine at first. It breaks with decimals, where it turns 3.5 × 10 into 3.50 instead of 35. This pack teaches the digit shift from the start, so there is nothing to unlearn later.
Do I need to buy anything to use it?
No. Every answer is included. If a section shows a gap, the Multiplying and Dividing by Powers of 10 lesson teaches it in full, but nothing here depends on that.
Is it printable?
Yes. 14 A4 portrait pages that print at home in colour or black and white. The answer boxes are sized for a child's handwriting.
What is the QR code on the sheets?
It opens the same skill in the free SHLC Skills Lab, with fresh numbers every time, so your child can keep practising after the sheets run out.
