About this lesson
By the end of this lesson your child can take any fraction-of-an-amount question, unit fraction, non-unit fraction, increase or decrease, fraction of a change, or successive fractions, and know exactly which method it needs. The 11+ and GCSE papers mix all of these into the same question, and that's where marks slip away when a child has only practised the basics.
Topics covered:
- Unit fractions of an amount, for example finding 1/4 of 32
- Non-unit fractions of an amount, and comparing fractions of two different amounts
- Increasing and decreasing an amount by a fraction
- Finding the fraction of a change, for example a price rises from 40 to 50, by what fraction did it increase
- Successive fractions, where one fraction is applied, then a second fraction is applied to what's left
Your child works through this lesson on any screen. They click to reveal each step of a worked example, try the practice questions on paper, then click to check their own answer.
How it's structured:
- 3 of the 5 units open with a hands-on interactive Explore activity, and every unit includes a worked example your child clicks through line by line, then a bank of practice questions colour-coded easy, medium and hard
- 60 questions across the 5 units, each with a click-to-reveal answer and a reveal-all option
- A final 20-question mixed challenge pulling from all 5 units, 80 questions in total, the way these questions turn up mixed together on an exam paper
The method most worksheets skip is this. When a number changes, you find the fraction of that change by dividing by the original amount, not the new one. Mixing the two up is the most common mistake in this topic, and it's exactly what Unit 4 is built to catch before it costs marks on the real exam.
Use this if:
- Your child is in Year 4 to Year 11 and needs to build fraction confidence
- You're preparing for the 11+, where fraction-of-amount and increase/decrease questions come up regularly
- Your child is doing GCSE Foundation and loses marks on multi-step fraction questions
- You want a resource that marks itself instead of one more thing on your list

My son has been having 11+ Maths tuition with Aadam and the improvement in his confidence and ability has been noticeable. Aadam breaks down challenging topics in a way that’s easy to understand and ensures concepts are fully grasped before moving on. The sessions are focused and well planned.F. Khushi · January 2026
Aadam, the tutor has a lovely mannerism and has made my daughter feel at ease. He explains the question in a way that she understands and is patient with her. She has already seen the results at school from his help and has gone up two GCSE grades in a short period of time.P. Flower · December 2024

FAQs
How do I access the lesson?
You'll get an email with your lesson link as soon as payment goes through. Click it to open the lesson in any browser, no login and no app to install.
How does the marking work?
There's no typing answers into a box. Your child works it out on paper, then clicks to reveal the correct answer and checks their own work. Full working is shown too, not just the final answer, so mistakes are easy to spot.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
It works best on a tablet or laptop, where there's more room to read the examples and questions. It'll open on a phone too, but the text and diagrams can feel quite small on a smaller screen.
Can I use the lesson more than once?
Yes. There's no limit on how many times you open the link, so it's there for revision right up to the exam.
What if I lose the link or don't get the email?
