Pressure Calculator
Pressure is how hard a force pushes on each bit of surface. Spread the same force over a bigger area and the pressure drops, which is why snowshoes work. Fill in two of pressure, force and area, leave the third at zero, and the working shows which way round the formula goes.

Worked Example
A force of 60 N presses on an area of 4 m². What is the pressure?
- The triangle gives pressure = force ÷ area
- Divide:60 ÷ 4 = 15 N/m²
Answer: 15 N/m²
Try These Yourself
Pressure 20 N/m² over an area of 3 m². Find the force.Show answer
Answer: 60 N
20 × 3.
Force 100 N and pressure 25 N/m². Find the area.Show answer
Answer: 4 m²
100 ÷ 25.
Why do snowshoes stop you sinking?Show answer
Answer: They spread the force over more area
Bigger area gives lower pressure.
