Method, Step by Step

    Worked Example

Amir has 86 marks out of 160 so far. There are 80 marks still to come and he wants 65% overall. What does he need?

    1. Total marks:160 + 80 = 240
    2. For 65% overall:0.65 × 240 = 156 marks
    3. Still needed:156 − 86 = 70
    4. As a share of the last paper:70 ÷ 80 = 87.5%

Answer: 70 marks (87.5% of the final paper)
