GCSE Timing Trainer
Do a past paper against the clock. Before each question, tap in how many marks it is worth and you get that share of the time. Finish early and the spare time goes in your bank for harder questions later. At the end you see exactly where the time went.
Free. Works with any paper. AQA, Edexcel, OCR, Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE presets built in.
Time follows the marks
A 90 minute paper with 80 marks gives about 1 minute 8 seconds per mark. A 5 mark question gets about 5 and a half minutes, a 1 mark question about a minute. That is the pace examiners build the paper around.
Bank the time you save
Finish a question early and the spare time goes in your bank. Go over on a hard one and it comes out of the bank. If the bank runs dry you see that you are behind pace, so you know to move on.
Stuck? Flag it and move on. It waits for you at the end.
See where the time went
The review shows every question against its share, the ones that ran too long, and how your bank rose and fell. Add the marks you got to see whether the long questions paid off.
Sounds, pause and full screen are built in.
Preset timings come from each exam board's current specification. Always go by the front cover of the paper you are doing. For the 11+, use the 11+ Timing Trainer.
