One question I get from home educating families more than almost any other is this: what do we use when I can't be there to teach every session?

Live tuition works brilliantly for a lot of families, and it's what we do at SHLC. But not every family needs or wants weekly one-to-one sessions. Some parents are juggling multiple children, some students learn better at their own pace, and some families are simply looking for something solid to work through independently between sessions or instead of them.

For those families, I think Veronika's Maths Club is worth knowing about.

Who Is Veronika?

Veronika Skye is a mathematician and educator based in Scotland with nearly two decades of tutoring experience across secondary maths. She's worked with students across the UK and internationally, from GCSE and iGCSE through to A-level and SQA qualifications. Her reputation is built on making maths feel approachable for students who've convinced themselves they can't do it. The "yes, you can" approach is the thread running through everything she does.

What the Maths Club Actually Is

The Maths Club is a self-paced online learning programme designed specifically for home educating families. At its core is a video lesson library of nearly 200 lessons covering the full GCSE and iGCSE maths curriculum across all the main exam boards: Edexcel, AQA, and OCR at both Foundation and Higher tier.

The key word is self-paced. There are no fixed sessions your child has to attend. They work through lessons in their own time, at their own speed, without the pressure of keeping up with a live lesson or a class.

On top of the video library, members get past paper walkthroughs organised by board and tier, monthly live drop-in sessions with Veronika (with replays if you can't attend live), self-assessment and progress tracking tools, and access to a community of other home educating families.

The price is £20 a month after a 7-day free trial. No long-term commitment, cancel whenever you like.

Who It Works For

This is genuinely aimed at home educators, not as an afterthought but as the whole point. A lot of maths resources marketed as flexible are really just school-style programmes repackaged. The Maths Club is built around the reality that home educating families have different schedules, different pressures, and different approaches to learning.

It works particularly well if your child is the kind of learner who does better watching something explained at their own pace and rewinding when needed, rather than being put on the spot in a live lesson. It also works well as a supplement to live tuition, giving students something structured to work through between sessions rather than leaving revision to chance.

The programme covers iGCSE as well as standard GCSE, which is worth noting for families at international schools or those sitting the Edexcel iGCSE.

You don't need to be confident in maths yourself for this to work. The videos are there to do the teaching. Your job is to sit alongside your child as a study partner, not to be the expert in the room.

What It Is Not

It's not a replacement for one-to-one tuition if your child is seriously struggling, has big gaps, or is in the final weeks before an exam and needs targeted support fast. For that kind of intervention, working directly with a tutor is still the more effective option. If you're in that situation, get in touch with us at SHLC and we can talk through what your child actually needs.

But for families building a structured, long-term approach to GCSE maths at home, this is one of the more coherent options I've seen.

The Free Trial

There's a 7-day free trial with full access from day one. That's enough time to work through several lessons and get a genuine sense of whether the style suits your child before committing to anything. Start it here.
