Knowing the Content Is Not Enough
One of the most frustrating situations in GCSE exams is a student who understands the material but still loses marks. Wrong layout. Running out of time. Missing method marks on questions they actually knew how to do. It happens more than most parents realise and it is entirely fixable.
The Exam Technique Rescue is 4 focused sessions built around exactly that. No going back over content. No starting from scratch. Just targeted work on the things that cost marks in the exam room.
£199 for four 45 minute sessions and a sessions and all of the below.
What We Cover
Every session is tailored to the student but across the 4 lessons we focus on:
- Method marks and how to pick them up even when the final answer is wrong
- Answer layout and presentation so examiners can follow the working clearly
- Time strategy so students know how long to spend on each question and when to move on
- How to approach questions that look unfamiliar without panicking
- Structuring longer answers for maximum marks
- Checking strategies that catch errors without eating into time
Who This Is For
This is for students who are preparing for GCSEs and already have a reasonable grasp of the content but are not converting that knowledge into marks in the exam. It also works well for students who consistently underperform in timed conditions compared to how they do in class, and for anyone who has had a mock paper back and been surprised by how many marks they dropped on questions they knew.
To get the most out of these sessions, students should complete either a full past paper or a full set of papers under timed exam conditions before we begin. This is not optional. Without doing this, it is very hard for a student to truly understand where their technique is letting them down. The data from those papers is what shapes the four sessions and makes them as targeted as possible.
If your child's issue is not knowing the subject, this is not the right starting point. The 4 Week Kickstart or one of our homeschool packages would be a better fit.

Frequently Asked Questions
When should we book this? Ideally four to eight weeks before the exam. Close enough that the techniques are fresh going in, but with enough time to practise them properly before exam day. It can also be useful after a mock, once you have the paper back and can see exactly where marks were dropped.
Will you go over content in the sessions? Only if a gap in knowledge is directly affecting technique. The focus is on how to answer questions, not what the answers are. If your child needs content revision alongside technique work, the 4 Week Kickstart covers both.
How are the sessions structured? Each lesson focuses on a specific area of exam technique. Your child works through real exam questions with the tutor, who shows them exactly how to approach, lay out and check answers to maximise marks. Sessions are 45 minutes each.
Can this be combined with other packages? Yes. Some students on our termly packages add an Exam Technique Rescue in the weeks leading up to their exam. It works well alongside regular tuition as a focused top-up.
Is this suitable for homeschool students sitting GCSEs? Yes. Homeschool students sitting GCSEs privately often have strong subject knowledge but less experience of exam conditions and examiner expectations. This is exactly the kind of support that bridges that gap.
